Dry Herb Versus Liquid: Understanding The Differences

When it comes to vaping CBD there are several different ways that you can use. Considering how fast the vaping industry is growing, it is often confusing to figure out which is the most effective way to vape CBD. While it seems like dry herbs are the only choice, there are also concentrates and oils that are just as good.

However, before you pick something just because you like the idea, let’s take a deep dive into the differences that exist between each one of them so that you can make an informed decision on which method to use.

Dry Herb Vaporizer

A dry herb vaporizer does exactly what the name suggests, it helps you vape CBD as dry herbs or flowers. This makes them different from the vaporizers that people are more familiar with which employ liquid cartridges.

What a dry herb vaporizer provides is convenience. They are compact devices that you can carry anywhere with you. These are usually one button devices. This implies that all you need to do is press one button and get all the benefits of dry herb or aromatherapy.

With a dry herb vaporizer, you also inhale a lot fewer toxins than you would from smoking it but there are still some side effects.

Inhaling anything is bound to irritate your lungs. So, do keep that in mind.

Dry herb vaporizers also have the added advantage of imparting a much more flavorful experience to you. While if you are a beginner, this might not be on the top of your priority list but for someone who wants to fully experience the flavor of the dry herb, this is ideal.

Dry Herb Vs Oil

Now that we know what a dry herb vaporizer is, let’s see how it stacks up against liquid. When we refer to liquid, we are generally talking about oil.

They look pretty similar at first glance but they have a couple of key differences. One of the most glaring ones is the temperature that the vape pen needs to be at.

Oil requires a much higher temperature than dry herbs to combust. This means that the device, by virtue of the higher temperature it requires, is a little slower to reach the required temperature.

Another difference is that it is much easier to maintain a dry herb vaporizer than a vape oil pen. A dry herb vaporizer usually consists of parts that can easily be taken apart to clean. With oil vape, it takes a lot longer. You can easily just brush out the herb chamber and it would be clean. On the other hand, oil is a little more difficult to clean out because of the consistency. Simple water just won’t do the trick.

Dry herb vaporizers are just generally much easier to use in comparison to vape oil pens. They are more flexible. This won’t be an issue if you just use one kind of oil but if it is more than one, it will be.

Safety Concerns

The biggest problem is not any of this but instead a safety concern that has come to the forefront in recent times. There are over 1,800 reported cases of vaping related illness. All of the reported patients had some history of using e-liquid powered delivery devices.

The actual reason is still up in the air but the same history does indicate that there is a problem. Raw CBD oil is very thick when extracted, which makes it very tough to vape it. So, over the years black market manufacturers have started putting additives to decrease the viscosity of the oil. But customers complained that the oil was not strong enough. Now manufacturers began to add a thickener (which is vitamin E acetate). The problem with this is that it deposits on the lungs as well causing the illness.

Reported symptoms include tightening of the chest, nausea, stomach pains, and shortness of breath.  Additionally, black-market cartridges have also been found to contain a fungicide that turns into hydrogen cyanide when exposed to heat, pesticides, and of course vitamin E.

How To Be Safe When You Vape CBD

While there is no one reason that has been isolated for the illness, a safe thing to do would be to not buy from the black market at all. Always keep a tab on what you are vaping. Only vape things that come from a known source with lab test results that you double-check.

The best thing you can do is, stick to dry herbs for a while. At least till the time, the reason for the illness is found. If the oil is something that you just prefer more then always buy from a state-licensed dispensary. You are the only person responsible for taking care of yourself. So, make informed educated decisions regarding what you end up vaping.
